VISIT OTHER BEACHES NEAR BY:
The Guanacaste province is famous for it's amazing beaches. if you want to explore the beautiful coastline, walk, rent a bike, a golft cart or take a quick cab ride to any of the beaches below:
To the south:
Playa Flamingo<https://www.twoweeksincostarica.com/playa-flamingo-luxury-destination-guanacaste/>: a more developed, resort town within walking distance. it's fluffy white sand beaches are backed by quiet mangroves.
Playa Brasilito<https://www.twoweeksincostarica.com/playa-brasilito/>: 15 minutes south of potrero, is more of a locals’ beach. it’s a long stretch of sand and has some beautiful little islands just off the northern end. great friday night local market.
Playa Conchal<https://www.twoweeksincostarica.com/playa-conchal/>: playa conchal is just south of brasilito. here, the sand is mostly made up of tiny broken shells and the water is clear and usually good for snorkeling. playa conchal is home to the westin reserva conchal resort, but if you aren’t staying there, you can still access the beach on foot.
To the north:
Playa Penca: this is a must see. the next beach, walking distance to the north end of the beach is playa penca (look for the small sign just past the soccer field on the left or cross the rocks at low tide). playa penca has beautiful light sand and clear turquoise water, perfect for swimming. bring a beach bag with the essentials.
Playa Prieta: on the far side of playa penca is playa prieta. this is a lesser-known beach because it is slightly harder to get to, but well worth the effort. you can either walk the beach trail from playa penca, walk along the rocks at low tide, or take a cab. it’s a great place to spend the day, with a lot of shade. it has pretty light sand and clear water with decent waves. be sure to take the short walk to the northern end to see the rocky, vegetated point.
